Bar Verde in the East Village – Carnivore Girl Loves Vegan Food

I once was “keto”, if you haven’t seen this diet fad trending all over the internet, I’ll inform you. I’m no expert but the keto diet is basically a high fat, low carb diet. A huge staple in this diet is meat. So yeah, bacon, sure that’s keto. And from someone who once did the keto diet, meaning I ate a shiii ton of meat, probably more than the average woman should, I can personally tell you that VEGAN FOOD IS GOOD.

I recently made a reservation at Bar Verde in NYC, not aware it was ALL vegan. After finding out, I decided not to change the reservation (more like I was unable to). My prime time reservation was one of the last in the area. Due to limited outdoor dining capacity because of Covid on this bright and sunny NYC day in February, the claws were out when it came to locking down a reservation. So figured, I’d give this vegan Mexican spot a try. Atmosphere was on point and looked like a god vibe.

I was not expecting the food to be SO GREAT. From their nachos with butternut squash cheese to their quesadillas with cashew cheese, and trust me I love cheese, I thoroughly enjoyed this faux fromage. Everything left me feeling light and energized, yet full, and ready to take on the rest of the sunny NYC day. And even though I won’t be going vegan, I am definitely more inclined to swap out some of my animal based eats for plant.

Montagu’s Gusto – Murray Hill

I was invited to try a bite at this cozy artisan eatery in Murray Hill. When you walk in, you notice this fresh display of ingredients. For me, it’s speaks to the food’s freshness when it’s upfront hanging out for you to see, and everything did tasted incredibly fresh. From the salads to the handcrafted speciality sandwiches, everything is locally sourced and also reasonably priced. I MEEANNNN check out that steak sandwich, they definitely hooked it up on the steak. Finding a loaded fresh steak sandwich in New York City for under $13.00 is a deal you gotta be a part of. This place is a must go.

Pizzarte – Midtown Manhattan

One of my favorite restaurants in the city for sure. Every time my mom comes into town, we have to go here. She loves this place just as much as me, if not MORE. From their apps, to their pastas, to of course, their pizzas, you really can’t go wrong with anything on their menu… and trust me, I’ve about had it all.

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

In a year as crazy as 2020, something as simple as the beginning of fall seems just as insane. While March, April, and May drug on, summer went by as quick as a blink. Now here we are, Fall. I figured the best way to convince myself of that truth was to be surrounded with hundreds of pumpkins and eat pumpkin ravioli from Trader Joe’s, all whilst wearing an orange shirt. Obviously planned. My boyfriend wore a black shirt, unplanned, but was perfect for the spooky Halloween season during the spookiest year.

Animal Crossing

I am an animal crossing lover and player. The average person may even consider me a fanatic, I know my boyfriend certainly does. During quarantine, I found myself with extra free time, as I’m sure most of us did. I loved Animal Crossing and played it on my Nintendo DS back in the day. It came back for me just at the right time ~ in the midst of quarantine ~. I was very happy to have Animal Crossing New Horizons on the switch to bring my joy during those scary times. Creme Brûlée

INGREDIENTS:

1 quart heavy cream

1 vanilla bean, split and scraped

1 cup of vanilla sugar (I didn’t have any so I substituted it with 6 ounces of vanilla extract and 10 ounces of sugar) same thing right?

6 large egg yolks

2 quarts hot water

Preheat the oven to 315 degrees, put the cream into a sauce pan, split the vanilla bean down the middle and scrape the insides in and set to medium high heat and bring to boil. Set for 15 minutes and let cool. While that’s cooking, whisk together sugar and egg yolks until blended. Add the cream while mixing. Then pour into ramekins and place them on baking pan. Pour hot water into the pan so it comes halfway up the side of the ramekins, preventing the cream from sticking. Bake until Creme brûlée is set but still a lil giggly in the center, about 55 minutes. Remove them and refrigerate for at least 2 hours prior to browning the top. Generously sprinkle sugar evenly across the top. Using a torch melt the sugar until it hardens to form a crispy top. Allow to set for at least 5 minutes before YA ENJOY!
